Akwatia MP appeals against his contempt conviction, and files for a stay of execution.

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi has reportedly appealed against the contempt of court conviction slapped on him by the High Court in Koforidua.

The Akwatia MP was convicted Wednesday, February 19, for presenting himself to be sworn in as an MP despite an injunction prohibiting him.

The court withheld sentencing as Kumi was absent. It, however, issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Addressing journalists in Parliament, Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib indicated that the MP has also filed an application to stay the execution of the bench warrant issued against him.

Ahmed Shaib also accused the judge of bias.
