CLOGSAG to go on strike

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has called on its members to prepare for a nationwide industrial action, scheduled to begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

After the declaration, the government called on the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) to reconsider its decision to go on strike, following the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway,

Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama and Minister of State for Government Communications, appealed during a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 19.

“We believe that the president has acted correctly in the appointment of Mr. Adom Botchway, so we would appeal to CLOGSAG to rescind their decision to go on strike,” stated Kwakye Ofosu.

He acknowledged the importance of strike actions as a mechanism for workers to drive home their demands but emphasized that in this instance, there was no sufficient basis for such an action.

Reacting to the government’s plea, CLOSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo said the National Council has to meet before the call off the strike.

He however insists that their strike is based on a supreme court ruling stating that politically exposed persons cannot hold the office.
