Dr. James Kofi Annan, the National Democratic Congress’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Effutu Constituency, has indeed supported the Effutu Municipal Hospital amid the cholera outbreak in the municipality. He donated essential supplies to the hospital to aid in the treatment of patients.
This gesture comes as the hospital struggles to contain the outbreak, which has already claimed the lives of two children and affected 356 people, with 29 confirmed cases. The outbreak has primarily hit fishing communities along the coast, with children being the most affected group.
James Kofi Annan’s support is crucial, as concerns remain high about the municipality’s ability to manage the outbreak. Health officials have emphasized the importance of hygiene and sanitation, urging residents to seek medical care at the earliest signs of infection
The hospital says contact tracing has begun to ensure that the disease does not spread to other areas within the Municipality.
However, one person has been confirmed dead according to the Acting Municipal Superintendent of the hospital.
The Acting Medical Superintendent, Dr. Douglas Amponsah, said they are doing their best to prevent the spread of the disease. Noted that the individuals who have contracted the disease have been isolated and are being treated adding that the hospital is on top of the issues.
“We have set up a cholera Isolation center due to the cholera outbreak. So far, 29 have been confirmed with cholera out of 356 cases.
“Interestingly, the majority of these cases are coming from a particular area within the Winneba locality. We have confirmed two deaths, one in October 2024, and the other one happened 2025. Most of the infected persons are children and we are trying our best to deal with the situation. The children are responding well that is the good news,” Dr.Douglas Amponsah, Acting Medical Superintendent for the Winneba Municipal Hospital said.

Reacting to the cholera outbreak, James Kofi Annan assured that they will use their political power as the NDC government to help combat the spread.
He promised to help relocate the dumping site in most communities within the fishing area in the Effutu Municipality and also organize clean-up exercises in order to prevent cholera from spreading.
