64% of Ghanaians unhappy with Afenyo Markin’s role in ministerial vetting – Poll

According to a new Global InfoAnalytics poll, 64% of Ghanaians are dissatisfied with Alexander Afenyo Markin’s performance in the ministerial vetting process.

A new national poll by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that 64% of Ghanaians are dissatisfied with the performance of Alexander Afenyo Markin, the Minority Leader and Ranking Member on the Appointments Committee of Parliament, in the ongoing ministerial vetting process.

The survey, conducted between January 30 and February 1, 2025, sampled 952 respondents through online and field interviews.

It found that 44% of respondents were “not satisfied at all” with Afenyo Markin’s performance, while an additional 20% expressed general dissatisfaction. In contrast, only 8% of respondents reported being “extremely satisfied” with his role in the vetting process.

The findings suggest growing public concern over the effectiveness and fairness of the Appointments Committee’s work.

Additionally, the poll indicated that 77% of Ghanaians believe the vetting process is being used for political point-scoring

The dissatisfaction with Afenyo Markin’s performance comes amid broader scrutiny of parliamentary proceedings, including controversy over the Speaker’s decision to suspend four MPs, which has divided public opinion.

Despite this, the poll found that 63% of Ghanaians are generally satisfied with the work of the Appointments Committee as a whole.
