As Ghana marks the 65th anniversary of the Commonwealth Scholarship, alumni of the program are calling on the government to make education funding a top priority. The alumni believe that investing in education is crucial for the country’s development and growth.
During a recent gathering, some alumni suggested that the new Minister of Education should convene a roundtable discussion on education, focusing on partnerships and funding. They emphasized that this is a critical issue that the government needs to address.
One alumnus noted that Ghana had made progress in education in the past, but those efforts were left unfinished. He urged the government to concretise its plans and policies to ensure that the new Minister of Education has a clear direction.
Another alumnus stressed the importance of having a vision for education that is powered by people who are educated, experienced, and knowledgeable in the field. They also highlighted the need to train human resources, including alumni, to drive the growth of companies and industries.
The alumni’s call to action comes at a critical time, as Ghana seeks to build a stronger, more sustainable economy. By prioritising education funding, the government can help ensure that the country has the skilled workforce it needs to succeed.
