Clear funding policy, transplantation law needed for renal disease, others – C.E.O Kolebu Hospital, Dr Owusu Sekyere

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has emphasized the importance of establishing a clear funding policy and implementing a transplantation law for renal diseases in the country.

Dr. Frank Owusu Sekyere, the Chief Executive Officer at KBTH, highlighted that such measures would address the issue of financial access to services provided for renal patients.

“We need to have a clear discussion, clear policy on funding such conditions. It is the kidney now, but there are other chronic conditions that we need to look at. With a little bit of support there, people can survive.”

“So there are corporate bodies that have come on board, and I think we need more because of the capital-intensive nature of dealing with this condition. We also need to have clear legislation on organ transplantation,” he stated.

Also he said the government gives firm assurance of legislation to back process of renal harvesting and transplantation which will be done by the, according to Dr Owusu Sekyere road has also become one of the major causes of death, so he urged legislation to consider other organs transplantation.

Responding to that , the chief of staff Julius Debrah said president Mahama has also expressed concern about renal harvesting and transplantation being backed by the government.
